Sandy Sheets

This idea was the drink that inspired me to go down this cranberry cocktail rabbit hole. I was teaching my cousin some cocktail techniques and a few fun recipes that included the classic Sex on the Beach. I had asked him whether he wanted to learn a Sex on the Beach or a Tequila Sunrise then chuckled to myself that there ought to be a cocktail that bridges the gap between the two and that clearly it would be named Sandy Sheets. Ha! From there I went to work blending the two cocktails and trying a variety of reimagined recipes and alternate ingredients to eventually end up back where I started with an almost half and half mash up of the original recipes. To carry on with the theme of an early morning pre-sunrise sky I infused the vodka with Butterfly Pea Flowers which gives it a deep purple-blue color that changes to various shades of pink when mixed with citrus and used it as a float.

1.5 oz Blanco tequila (espolon)
.5 oz Butterfly Pea Flower Infused Vodka (float)
.25 oz Triple Sec
1 tsp Peach Brandy
1.5 oz Orange Juice
1 oz Ocean Spray 100% Juice Cranberry Cocktail
.25 oz Lime Juice
1 dash Palisade Peach Bitters
Combine tequila, triple sec, peach brandy, orange juice, lime juice, and bitters in a tin with plenty of ice, shake and strain over new ice in a double old fashioned glass.
Sink cranberry juice by pouring slowly into the drink right up against the glass.
Float BPF vodka by slowly pouring over a bar spoon hovering just over the ice in the glass and garnish with a half orange wheel.
